Joaquín Reyes, (San Juan, PR, 1949 - 1994)
Pintor y artista gráfico. Estudió en la Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico. Aprendió serigrafía con el artista Eliasim Cruz, con quién fundó el taller de serigrafía Visión Plástica en 1970 y el Taller-Estudio Prisma en San Juan en 1989. Trabajó para el taller de diseño del Programa de Actividades Culturales de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en 1975. Recibió importantes comisiones, como la del cartel de inauguración del Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico en 1988. Obtuvo, entre otros, el Primer Premio de Grabado, en el Certamen del Ateneo Puertorriqueño. Sus obras presentan figuras dominantes que ocupan la mayor parte del espacio, resueltas en contornos vigorosos y planos amplios en colores sólidos sobre fondos atexturados. En algunas obras incorporó objetos y medios mixtos.
Joaquín Reyes, (San Juan, PR, 1949 - 1994)
Painter and graphic artist. He studied at the Puerto Rico School of Visual Arts. He learned serigraphy with artist Eliasim Cruz, with whom he established the Visión Plástica serigraphy workshop in 1970 and the Prisma studio-workshop in San Juan in 1989. He worked at the design workshop of the University of Puerto Rico’s Cultural Activities Program in 1975. He received several important commissions, such as the inauguration poster for the Puerto Rico Museum of Contemporary Art in 1988. Among others awards, he won First Prize in the Ateneo Puertorriqueño’s Engraving Competition. His work presents dominant figures that occupy most of the space, surrounded by vigorous environs and ample planes in solid colors over textured backgrounds. Some of his pieces incorporate objects and mixed media.
