Eric Tabales, (San Juan, PR, 1962)
Escultor, artista gráfico, escenógrafo, pintor y profesor. Obtuvo, en 1985, el Bachillerato en Biología y Química de la Universidad de Puerto Rico (UPR), donde además cursó Tecnología Médica en 1987. Más tarde completó un Bachillerato en Artes Plásticas en la UPR y en 1996 una Maestría en Pintura en la Academia de San Carlos, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, en Ciudad de México. En 1993 recibió el primer premio en la III Bienal de Arte Joven del Chase Manhattan Bank y en 1995 el premio de Monumento Público de la Asociación de Críticos de Arte, por su Capilla de Meditación Juan Acha. Ha sido profesor de la UPR y actualmente en la Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico. Realizó los vitrales del Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, en Santurce, y los del Centro de Bellas Artes de Guaynabo. Su trabajo es el resultado de investigaciones, no sólo técnicas sino además conceptuales, las cuales lo llevan a estudiar e identificarse con una nueva visión de la plástica latinoamericana. Eric Tabales, (San Juan, PR, 1962)
Painter, sculptor and professor. In 1985 he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry from the University of Puerto Rico (UPR), where he also studied Medical Technology in 1987. He later completed a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts from UPR and, in 1996, a Master of Arts in Painting from the San Carlos Academy of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico in Mexico City. In 1993 he won first prize at the III Biennial of Young Art sponsored by the Chase Manhattan Bank, and in 1995 the Public Monument prize from the Art Critics Association for his Capilla de Meditación Juan Acha (Juan Acha Meditation Chapel). He has been a professor at UPR and currently at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico. He created the stained-glass windows at the Puerto Rico Art Museum in Santurce and the Fine Arts Center in Guaynabo. His work is the result of his technical and conceptual research, which has led him to study and identify a new vision of the Latin American visual arts. He was the artist-in-residence at the Universidad Central, Bayamón.
