Carmelo Sobrino, (Manatí, PR, 1948)
Pintor, muralista, escultor, dibujante y artista gráfico. Sus primeros estudios de arte fueron con el pintor Oscar Colón Delgado en Hatillo. Luego, en los años sesenta, estudió pintura, escultura, vitral y gráfica en la Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico, con maestros como Fran Cervoni, Rafael Tufiño, Carlos Raquel Rivera, Augusto Marín, entre otros. Asistió a la Academia San Carlos en México. En 1969, junto a Antonio Martorell, fundó el Taller Alacrán para enseñar artes gráficas a jóvenes, y en 1971 fundó el Taller Capricornio, donde enseñaba dibujo y pintura. En 1981 dirigió en España un proyecto de exhibiciones itinerantes de murales de artistas españoles y puertorriqueños. Ha sido profesor en la Liga de Estudiantes de Arte de San Juan, Casa Candina y la Universidad del Turabo en Caguas. Su temática es diversa, inspirada en el bodegón y la belleza del paisaje puertorriqueño.

Painter, muralist, sculptor, draftsman, and graphic artist. His first art studies were with painter Oscar Colón Delgado in Hatillo. Later, in the sixties, he studied painting, sculpture, stained-glass windows, and graphics at the Puerto Rico School of Plastic Arts under teachers Fran Cervoni, Rafael Tufiño, Carlos Raquel Rivera, and Augusto Marín, among others. He attended the San Carlos Academy in Mexico. In 1969 he established Taller Alacrán with Antonio Martorell to teach graphic arts to young people, and in 1971 he established Taller Capricornio, where he taught drawing and painting. In 1981 he directed a traveling exhibition in Spain of murals by Spanish and Puerto Rican artists. He has been a professor at the San Juan League of Art Students, Casa Candina, and Turabo University in Caguas. His themes are diverse, inspired by still-lifes and the beauty of the Puerto Rican landscape.
