Raúl Zayas López, (San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba, 1946)
Pintor. Sus padres se conocieron en una base militar en Cuba y tiempo después vinieron a vivir a Puerto Rico. En 1970 obtuvo un Bachillerato en Humanidades con concentración en Bellas Artes de la Universidad de Puerto Rico. Estudió bajo la tutela de grandes maestros como Félix Rodríguez Báez, John Balossi, Luisa Géigel, Carlos Marichal y Jaime Romano. Se desempeñó como profesor de la Liga de Estudiantes de Arte de San Juan. Ha participado en numerosas exhibiciones colectivas e individuales en y fuera del país. Ha ganado varios premios; entre ellos, Premio Dibujo, Certamen de Arte Municipio de San Juan, 1969; Primer Premio Pintura, Salón United Federal Savings Bank, 1974 y Mención Honorífica, Salón UNESCO, Universidad de Puerto Rico, 1976. Sus trabajos iniciales eran puramente figurativos y a mediados de los setenta, inspirado por una exhibición del artista Alfredo Cubiña, decidió explorar el lenguaje abstracto, el cual sigue trabajando.

Painter. His parents met at a military base in Cuba and later moved to Puerto Rico. In 1970 he obtained a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Fine Arts from the University of Puerto Rico. He studied under the guidance of some of the great maestros, such as Félix Rodríguez Báez, John Balossi, Luisa Géigel, Carlos Marichal, and Jaime Romano. He was a professor at the San Juan League of Art Students. He has participated in numerous collective and individual exhibitions in Puerto Rico and abroad. He has won several prizes, among them, Drawing Prize at the 1974 United Federal Savings Bank Competition, and Honorary Mention at the UNESCO Salon, University of Puerto Rico, 1976. His initial work was purely figurative until the mid seventies when, inspired by an Alfredo Cubiña exhibition, he decided to explore the language of abstract art, which he continues to pursue.
