Paul Camacho (Morovis, P.R., 1929 - San Juan, P.R., 1989)

Pintor y escenógrafo. Estudió en la Escuela de Arte y Diseño de Nueva York. Exhibió individual y colectivamente en Puerto Rico y Estados Unidos desde la década del setenta. Participó en certámenes en Estados Unidos y Europa, donde recibió premios y menciones honoríficas, entre los que destacan: el Primer Premio de Pintura en el Concurso Anual de New England (1970 y 1971) y el Primer Premio de Gráfica en el Museo de Stanford, CT, (1973). En 1977 fue miembro Fundador del Grupo Frente, junto a Luis Hernández Cruz, Antonio Navia y Lope Max Díaz; quienes a pesar de su corta duración, publicaron un periódico homónimo y un portafolio de obras gráficas. Trabajó dentro del estilo geométrico de bordes definidos, basado en cilindros y óvalos, que permiten la creación de ilimitados contrastes. Su lenguaje, inspirado en la maquinaria, busca captar el espíritu de nuestra era tecnológica con su orientación hacia el futuro.

Paul Camacho (Morovis, P.R., 1929 - San Juan, P.R., 1989)

Painter and scenographer. He studied at the New York School of Art and Design. Since the seventies, he held individual and collective exhibitions in Puerto Rico and the United States. He received prizes and honorary mentions in competitions in the United States and Europe, notably: First Prize in Painting at the Annual New England Competition (1970 and 1971) and First Prize in Graphic Art at the Stanford Museum, Stanford, CT (1973). In 1977, together with Luis Hernández Cruz, Antonio Navia, and Lope Max Díaz, he was a founding member of Grupo Frente (Front Group), which, despite its short life, published a newspaper by the same name and a portfolio of graphic works. He worked within the geometric style of defined edges, based on cylinders and ovals, which allow for the creation of unlimited contrasts. His language, inspired by machinery, seeks to capture the spirit of our technological era with its futuristic orientation.
