Ricardo Ávalo, (San Juan, P.R., 1967)
Pintor. Cursó estudios en la Universidad de Puerto Rico, donde obtuvo un Bachillerato en Artes Plásticas con concentración en Pintura en 1993. En 1989, recibió una beca para un viaje cultural que lo llevó a conocer Francia, Suiza, Italia, España y los Estados Unidos. En 1991 fue invitado por el escultor Pablo Rubio para trabajar en su taller de escultura, donde permaneció por cinco años. En 1992 obtuvo el primer Premio de Pintura en la Primera Bienal de Artes Plásticas del Museo Casa Roig en Humacao; mismo año en que asistió también al escultor español Amadeo Gabino durante el Primer Simposio de Escultura en Puerto Rico. En 1993 recibe el premio Jorge Rechany como el estudiante más destacado en pintura, en la Universidad de Puerto Rico. Durante 1996 y 1998 realizó varios intercambios culturales que lo llevan a Haití, Argentina y Canadá. En el 2000 participa en la exposición Puerto Rico en París, en la Sede de la UNESCO, AIAP, Francia. Expresionista abstracto caracterizado por la utilización de formas agresivas en combinación de una sorprendente mezcla de color.

Painter. Studied at the University of Puerto Rico, where in 1993 he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts with a major in Painting. In 1989 he received a scholarship for a cultural voyage to France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain and the United States. In 1991 he was invited by sculptor Pablo Rubio to work at his sculpting studio, and remained there for five years. He received First Place in Painting at the First Visual Arts Biennial of the Casa Roig Museum in Humacao in 1992, and during the same year also assisted Spanish sculptor Amadeo Gabino during the First Symposium on Sculpture in Puerto Rico. In 1993 he received the Jorge Rechany Award for Most Outstanding Student in Painting from the University of Puerto Rico. During the years 1996 and 1998 he participated in several cultural exchanges in Haiti, Argentina and Canada. In 2000 he participated in the Puerto Rico in Paris exhibition at UNESCO headquarters, AIAP, France. An abstract expressionist whose work is characterized by the use of aggressive forms combined with a surprising mix of color.
