Mariestella Colón Astacio, (San Juan, P.R., 1970)
Pintora. Cursó estudios en la Liga de Estudiantes de Arte de San Juan y en la Escuela Central de Artes Visuales de Santurce. En 1988 ganó el premio National Talent Search del Pratt Institute de Nueva York, donde más tarde, en 1992, obtuvo su Bachillerato en Bellas Artes. A través del programa de intercambio de dicha Universidad, viajó en este mismo año a Venecia por tres meses, dedicándose a pintar y a exhibir su trabajo artístico. En 1994 culminó su maestría en la Universidad de Nueva York. En 1999 diseñó GalleryArtist.com para promover y exponer a los artistas emergentes llegando a una audiencia global con exhibiciones en línea de artistas de Alemania, Hawaii, Israel, Inglaterra, Japón, Suiza, Puerto Rico y Estados Unidos. Desde el 2002 forma parte del grupo directivo de NurtureArt Non- Profit Inc. en Nueva York. Ha participado en exposiciones individuales y colectivas en Puerto Rico, Estados Unidos, Italia y Argentina. Ha recibido premios en certámenes auspiciados por el Municipio de San Juan y Pratt Institute de Nueva York. Sus pinturas abstractas exploran los problemas de percepción en la contemplación, del macro y el micro; trabajando también el concepto de la fertilidad y la creación. Crea ilusiones topográficas submarinas utilizando medios mixtos, elementos neorománticos y extraordinarios trazos de precisión formal.

Painter. She studied at the San Juan League of Art Students and at the Central School of Visual Arts in Santurce. In 1988, she won the National Talent Search Award of the Pratt Institute of New York, where she later earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1992. Through the institution’s exchange program, she traveled to Venice for three months that year, and devoted the time to painting and showing her work. In 1994 she completed her Master of Arts at New York University. In 1999, she designed GalleryArtist.com to promote and expose emerging artists to a global audience with online exhibitions of artists from Germany, Hawaii, Israel, England, Japan, Switzerland, Puerto Rico, and the United States. Since 2002 she has been a member of the Board of Trustees of NurtureART Non-Profit Inc. in New York. She has participated in individual and collective exhibitions in Puerto Rico, the United States, Italy, and Argentina. She has received awards in competitions sponsored by the Municipality of San Juan and the Pratt Institute in New York. Her abstract paintings explore the issues of perception in contemplation, the macro and micro. She also works with the concept of fertility and creation. She creates submarine topographic illusions using mixed media, neo-romantic elements, and extraordinary strokes of formal precision.
