Eduardo Firpi, (San Juan, P.R., 1951)

Fotógrafo. Estudió Fotografía e Historia del Arte en la Universidad de Ohio, New School for Social Research e Internacional Center of Photography de Nueva York. Debutó trabajando en 1975 con Philip Harrington, conocido fotógrafo que trabajó para National Geographic. Se estableció en Barcelona desde 1981 hasta 1994 y se ha desempeñado como fotógrafo comercial para prensa y publicaciones de modas y decoración, en Europa y Asia. Su obra personal más conocida es su serie de retratos de personalidades de la sociedad, el ámbito artístico y la cultura popular, como Miró, Mario Vargas Llosa, Almodóvar, Joan Manuel Serrat, diseñadores de modas y curadores de museos y galerías. El Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico lo comisionó en 1999 para retratar a los artistas representados en su publicación Conversando con nuestros artistas, de Eneid Routté Gómez. Otro de sus portafolios fotográficos que se han exhibido en varios países del mundo es Retratos de Barcelona de 1986. Es muy cuidadoso a la hora de seleccionar los elementos que se incluirán en la escena y busca siempre captar y transmitir la esencia de quien posa.

Eduardo Firpi, (San Juan, P.R., 1951)

Photographer. He studied Photography and Art History at Ohio University, the New School for Social Research, and the International Center of Photography in New York. He launched his career in 1975 working with Philip Harrington, the renowned photographer who worked for National Geographic. He lived in Barcelona from 1981 to 1994 and has worked as a commercial photographer in newspapers and fashion and decoration magazines in Europe and Asia. His most renowned personal work is his series of portraits of social, artistic, and popular celebrities, such as Miró, Mario Vargas Llosa, Almodóvar, Joan Manuel Serrat, fashion designers, and museum and gallery curators. In 1999 he was commissioned by the Puerto Rico Museum of Contemporary Art to photograph the artists represented in its publication Conversando con nuestros artistas (Speaking with Our Artists), by Eneid Routté Gómez. His 1986 Retratos de Barcelona (Pictures of Barcelona) is another one of his photographic portfolios which has been exhibited in several countries around the world. He is meticulous in selecting the elements to be included in a scene, and always seeks to capture and transmit the essence of his subjects.
