Augusto Marín, (San Juan, PR, 1921 - 2011)
Pintor, artista gráfico, muralista y profesor. Reconocido como uno de los pintores puertorriqueños de mayor relevancia en la segunda mitad del siglo veinte. Inició sus estudios de arte en el taller del artista español Alejandro Sánchez Felipe. En 1949 se trasladó a Nueva York para realizar estudios en pintura, dibujo y diseño en la Liga de Estudiantes de Arte bajo la tutela de Harry Stenberg, Iván Olinsky, John Corbino y Reginald Marsh. Prosiguió sus estudios en pintura en el Instituto de Arte Otis en Los Ángeles, California, donde se especializó en diseño de mural. En el taller de Arnaldo Maas en San Juan, practicó los vitrales policromados y perfeccionó esta técnica en el taller de Henri Mesterom en Holanda. También estudió litografía en la Escuela Graduada de Bellas Artes en la Universidad de Notre Dame, Indiana. Se desempeñó como director artístico de publicidad y profesor de la Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico y la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Carolina. Realizó una decena de murales en edificios públicos y privados en San Juan y su obra pictórica y gráfica figura en importantes colecciones en y fuera de Puerto Rico. En el 2005 recibió el Premio Nacional de Cultura (en arte) del Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña. Sus trabajos han sido presentados en más de cincuenta exposiciones colectivas e individuales a través de Puerto Rico, México, Alemania, Mónaco y Estados Unidos. La figura humana es uno de los elementos fundamentales de su arte, el que evolucionó hacia una figuración semiabstracta de gran lirismo, basada en una fusión de líneas curvas y formas libres casi geométricas.

Painter, graphic artist, muralist, and professor. He is recognized as one of the most relevant Puerto Rican painters of the second half of the twentieth century. He began his art studies at the studio of Spanish artist Alejandro Sánchez Felipe. In 1949 he traveled to New York to study painting, drawing, and design at the League of Art Students under the guidance of Harry Stenberg, Ivan Olinsky, John Corbino, and Reginald Marsh. He continued studies in painting at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, California, where he specialized in mural design. He practiced polychromatic stained glass window-making at the Arnaldo Maas studio in San Juan, and perfected the technique at the Henri Mesterom studio in Holland. He also studied lithography at the Graduate School of Fine Arts of Notre Dame University in Indiana. He was Artistic Director of Advertising and professor at the Puerto Rico School of Visual Arts and the Carolina campus of the University of Puerto Rico. He created over a dozen murals in public and private buildings in San Juan and his paintings and graphics work can be found in important collections in Puerto Rico and abroad. In 2005 he received the National Culture Prize (in art) from the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture. His work has been shown in over fifty collective and individual exhibitions in Puerto Rico, Mexico, Germany, Monaco, and the United States. The human body is one of the fundamental elements of his art, and it evolved into an enormously lyrical semiabstract figuration based on a fusion of curved lines and free, almost geometrical, forms.
