Carlos Osorio, (Caguas, PR, 1927 - San Juan, PR, 1984)

Pintor, artista gráfico, diseñador e ilustrador. Obtuvo su preparación artística en School of Visual Arts de Nueva York entre 1953 y 1956. A su regreso a Puerto Rico se incorporó al taller de gráfica de la Divedco donde trabajó como cartelista, diseñador e ilustrador hasta 1964. Volvió a Nueva York y se destacó como líder comunitario y promotor del arte puertorriqueño. Allí se unió al grupo Amigos de Puerto Rico y fue cofundador y Director del Taller Boricua, (un centro de educación comunitaria en las artes y de apoyo y difusión del arte puertorriqueño). En 1969 participó en la fundación del Museo del Barrio. Luego, en 1977, se trasladó a Austin, Texas, donde enseñó arte en la organización comunitaria Montopolis Recreation Center y dirigió un proyecto de murales públicos. En 1980 regresó a Puerto Rico y continuó su labor pictórica, que se destaca por la esquematización formal y diversas temáticas que incluyen retrato, paisaje y figura humana.

Painter, graphic artist, designer, and illustrator. His obtained his artistic education at the New York School of Visual Arts between 1953 and 1956. Upon his return to Puerto Rico, he joined the Divedco graphics workshop, where he worked as a poster artist, designer, and illustrator until 1964. He returned to New York and became an outstanding community leader and promoter of Puerto Rican art. There he joined the group Amigos de Puerto Rico (Friends of Puerto Rico) and co-founded and directed Taller Boricua, a center for community education in the arts and the support and dissemination of Puerto Rican art. In 1969 he participated in the establishment of the Museo del Barrio. He later moved to Austin, Texas, in 1977, and taught art at the Montopolis Recreation Center community organization and directed a public murals project. In 1980, he returned to Puerto Rico and continued his artistic work, which is distinguished by its formal schematization and diverse subject matter, including portraits, landscaping, and human figures.
