Marta Pérez García, (Arecibo, PR, 1965)

Artista gráfica, dibujante y pintora. En 1987 completó su Bachillerato en Bellas Artes de Louisiana State University y en 1993, una Maestría en Bellas Artes de Tyler School of Arts en Filadelfia, además de tomar cursos en la Universidad de West Virginia. En esta Universidad, fue asistente del profesor de grabado. A su regreso a Puerto Rico, trabajó como profesora en la Universidad Interamericana, Recinto de Arecibo y la Universidad del Sagrado Corazón en Santurce. En 1989 fue premiada en la Bienal de Arte Joven del Chase Manhattan Bank y en el 2001 obtuvo el gran premio de la XIII Bienal de San Juan del Grabado Latinoamericano y del Caribe. En 2003 recibió la beca de la Fundación Alfonso Arana para estudios en París, Francia, donde reside y trabaja actualmente. En su trabajo como grabadora se ha especializado en la técnica de la plancha perdida. Su obra contiene símbolos que expresan males sociales, presentados mediante una gran variedad de patrones de color explosivos y texturados.

Graphic artist, draftsman, and painter. In 1987 she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Louisiana State University, and in 1993 a Master of Fine Arts from the Tyler School of Arts in Philadelphia, in addition to taking courses at the University of West Virginia, where she was assistant professor of engraving. Upon her return to Puerto Rico, she taught at the Arecibo campus of Inter American University, and at Sacred Heart University in Santurce. In 1989, she won an award at the Chase Manhattan Bank Biennial of Young Art, and in 2001 she received the grand prize at the XIII San Juan Biennial of Latin American and Caribbean Engraving. She received a scholarship from the Alfonso Arana Foundation in 2003 to pursue studies in Paris, France, where she currently resides and works. As an engraver, she specializes in the soiled plate technique. Her work contains symbols that express social problems, presented though a great variety of patterns of explosive and textured colors.
