Marta Pérez, (San Juan, PR, 1934 - 2004)

Pintora y profesora. En 1955 obtuvo un Bachillerato en Arte y Filosofía en Notre Dame College de Maryland, que la becó para estudiar en Roma por un año. En 1977 estudió pintura al óleo y dibujo con el profesor Larry Gluck en Los Ángeles, California. Ofreció clases de arte en la Administración de Veteranos y en la Universidad de Puerto Rico y fue Directora de arte en Caribbean Consolidated Schools. Colaboró con el maestro ceramista Hal Lasky en el taller de cerámica Puerto Rican Pottery. Desde principios de los ochenta hasta el día de su muerte se dedicó por completo a su obra en su taller del Viejo San Juan. Su obra se caracteriza por el exuberante colorido, la aglomeración de elementos y las figuras femeninas de aspecto mítico y angelical.

Painter and professor. In 1955 she received a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Philosophy from Notre Dame College in Maryland, where she was awarded a scholarship to study in Rome for one year. In 1977 she studied oil painting and drawing with professor Larry Gluck in Los Angeles, California. She taught art at the Veterans Administration and the University of Puerto Rico, and was Art Director at Caribbean Consolidated Schools. She collaborated with master ceramist Hal Lasky in the Puerto Rican Pottery ceramics studio. Since the early eighties until her death, she devoted herself entirely to working in her studio in Old San Juan. Her work is characterized by exuberant colors, the agglomeration of elements, and female figures of mythical or angelical appearance.
