Marcos Ruiz Pérez, (Mayagüez, PR, 1979)
Escultor, fotógrafo e instalador conceptual. Estudió dibujo y música desde muy temprana edad. En 1995 ingresó al Centro de Adiestramiento y Bellas Artes de Aguadilla, (antes COPANI), donde estudió dibujo y anatomía humana. En 1997 ingresó a la Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico, donde terminó un Bachillerato en Artes Plásticas con concentración en Escultura. Fue ayudante de los artistas Charles Juhasz Alvarado, Antonio Navia, Cacheila Soto y los artistas conceptuales Jennifer Allora y Guillermo Calzadilla. Por medio de la manipulación de imágenes fotográficas de objetos comunes y de la apropiación de objetos cotidianos, le da vida a planetas utópicos que carecen de todos los problemas sociales que nos aquejan. Sus imágenes, intensamente coloreadas intentan retratar un inocente mundo extraterrestre con figuras blancas bulbosas hechas de bolas de algodón como sus protagonistas. Ha participado en veinticinco exposiciones colectivas entre 1998 y el 2007 incluyendo las ferias internacionales ARWI 2006, Photo Miami 2006, Arte Américas 2007 y Circa 2007.
Marcos Ruiz Pérez, (Mayagüez, PR, 1979)
Sculptor, photographer, and conceptual installer. He studied drawing and music from a very early age. In 1995 he entered the Training and Fine Arts Center in Aguadilla (formerly COPANI), where he studied drawing and human anatomy. In 1997, he was admitted to the Puerto Rico School of Plastic Arts, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts in Plastic Arts with a major in Sculpture. He has been the assistant to artists Charles Juhasz Alvarado, Antonio Navia, Cacheila Soto, and conceptual artists Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla. Through the manipulation of photographic images of common objects and the appropriation of everyday objects, he gives life to utopian planets devoid of our encumbering social problems. His intensely colored images attempt to portray an innocent extraterrestrial world in which the protagonists are bulbous white figures made out of cotton balls. He has participated in twenty-five collective exhibitions between 1998 and 2007, including international exhibitions ARWI 2006, Photo Miami 2006, Arte Américas 2007, and Circa 2007.
