Noemí Ruiz, (Mayagüez, PR, 1931)
Pintora, artista gráfica y profesora. Obtuvo un Bachillerato en Artes de la Universidad Interamericana de San Germán, una Maestría en Artes en New York University y cursó estudios doctorales en la Universidad Central de Madrid, España. Fue discípula de George McNeill y estudiante de litografía en el Taller de la Asociación de Estudiantes de la Universidad de California en Berkley. Se desempeñó como Directora del Departamento de Bellas Artes en la Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico en San Germán. Fue catedrática distinguida del Recinto Metropolitano de la UIA. Es socia fundadora del Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico y miembro de la Junta Directiva de la Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico, donde también ha ejercido como profesora. Ha recibido múltiples premios y reconocimientos entre los que se encuentran el Primer Premio en Pintura del Certamen del Ateneo Puertorriqueño en 1974; Mujer Distinguida en las Bellas Artes, Gobierno de Puerto Rico, 1979; entre otros. Es una figura clave en el desarrollo del arte abstracto en Puerto Rico. Su obra se caracteriza por composiciones formales de abstracción lírica, con gran dominio del color y en las cuales el elemento conceptual personal y de la naturaleza está simbólicamente presente.

Painter, graphic artist, and professor. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Inter American University in San Germán and a Master of Arts from New York University, and pursued doctoral studies at the Universidad Central de Madrid in Spain. She was a student of George McNeill and studied lithography at the Student Association Workshop at the University of California, Berkley. She was Director of the Fine Arts Department at Inter American University in San Germán, and a renowned professor at its Metropolitan campus. She is a founding member of the Puerto Rico Museum of Contemporary Art and a member of the Board of Directors of the Puerto Rico School of Plastic Arts, where she has also worked as a professor. She has received numerous awards and recognitions, including First Prize in Painting at the Ateneo Puertorriqueño Competition in 1974, and was selected Outstanding Woman of the Fine Arts by the government of Puerto Rico in 1979. She is a key figure in the development of abstract art in Puerto Rico. Her work is characterized by lyrically abstract formal compositions which reveal an extensive mastery of color, and in which a conceptual personal and natural element are symbolically present.
