Evelyn Sánchez, (Ponce, PR, 1939)

Pintora y dibujante. De pequeña cursó estudios en la Academia Edna Coll en Santurce y en el taller de Fran Cervoni. En 1961 se graduó de la Universidad de Puerto Rico con un Bachillerato en Bellas Artes. También estudió en la Liga de Estudiantes de Arte de San Juan. En estos años estudió con Luis Hernández Cruz, Augusto Marín, Bart Mayol, Jaime Romano y Zilia Sánchez. Estuvo muy activa en el arte en las décadas del sesenta y setenta, exhibiendo su obra, individual y colectivamente, en varias galerías de Puerto Rico. Más tarde tuvo que abandonar el campo de la plástica y desde 1986 a 1997 trabajó para el Senado de Puerto Rico. Durante estos años trabajó en funciones administrativas con la Comisión Puertorriqueña para la Celebración del Quinto Centenario del Descubrimiento de América y Puerto Rico. Sus primeros trabajos fueron dibujos en carboncillos y luego trabajó el acrílico dedicándose por completo a la abstracción con una tendencia monocromática.

Painter and draftsman. As a child she studied at the Edna Coll Academy and at the Fran Cervoni workshop. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Puerto Rico in 1961. She also studied at the San Juan League of Art Students. At the time, she studied under Luis Hernández Cruz, Augusto Marín, Bart Mayol, Jaime Romano, and Zilia Sánchez. She was very active in art during the sixties and seventies, and held individual and collective exhibitions at several galleries in Puerto Rico. She later had to abandon the visual arts, and from 1986 to 1997 she worked for Puerto Rico's Senate. During those years she performed administrative duties for the Puerto Rican Commission for the Celebration of the Fifth Centennial of the Discovery of America and Puerto Rico. Her first works were charcoal drawings and she later worked with acrylics, dedicating herself completely to abstract art with a monochromatic tendency.
